I'm on a Mac OS X Snow Leopard, with Java fully updated. I tried to contact the RuneScape customer support but whenever I contact them they totally ignore my question! I've never gotten any answers. RuneScape won't load on a Mac? For about a month now, every time I click play on RuneScape it just says 'inactive plug-in'. Offline Runescape, free offline runescape software downloads. Archives visited web pages with your browser to be used online and offline.Offline each page is available with its original URL. You can even use your bookmarks offline. There is no difference between surfing the internet and surfing the archive.
I'm in the RuneScape Tech Support forum a lot. Other people with similar problems have posted there recently. I may be able to help you sort out the problems you're having with RuneScape. In your other thread I think Linc Davis was on the right track.
Apple stopped releasing updates for OS X 10.5.8 a while ago. Trying to play RuneScape through your web browser won't work anymore. Your Mac has 32 bit web browsers which will try to use 32 bit Java to start RuneScape. A few months ago Jagex changed the requirements for RuneScape. It was announced in the news section on their site that you now need at least Java 6 (also known as 1.6) Update 10. The 32 bit Java on your Mac is too old to run RuneScape.
There is hope. If your Mac has an Intel CPU and it is 64 bit capable then OS X 10.5.8 will have a version of 64 bit Java that is current enough for RuneScape. I read your other thread and saw that you do have 64 bit Java installed. You can play RuneScape if you download Jagex's Mac version of the RS client. The RS client will find your Mac's 64 bit version of Java and use it to run the game. You can get the Mac RS client by going to the RuneScape homepage, point your mouse at Game Info at the top to see the drop down menu, and then click on Downloads. On the next page click the download button that has an apple on it. It will download the RuneScape.dmg file. I've searched the web for a 64 bit web browser that will run in OS X 10.5.8 but I have not been able to find one.
After you start the game you may need to set the graphics options in RuneScape so that the game runs in OpenGL mode. Currently there is an issue with Software mode that causes your mouse clicks to be out of alignment with the position of your mouse pointer.
Also, you mentioned that the OWL school site is not longer working on your Mac. That is probably because you unchecked the other versions of Java in the Java Preferences menu. You disabled the 32 bit versions of Java on your Mac and now your 32 bit web browser can't find them when you go the OWL school site. If you go back to the Java Preferences menu and enable those other versions of Java then I'd expect that site to start working again.
RuneScape and Java - important notice for Mac usersIn the last update to RuneScape, Jagex has started to display messages to users who are using old versions of Java, stating they must upgrade to a newer version or face the inability to play the game.Note: this is not a problem for Windows or Linux users, as there are new Java versions just a download away. If you have the outdated Java message and you run Windows or Linux, just download the new version from java.comRuneScape is about to remove support for older versions of Java as if they do so, they can dramatically improve the game for everyone else. Fair assumption, except there is one big problem for Mac users - if you are running Leopard (10.5) or below (eg. Tiger 10.4) then you can't upgrade to a compatible Java version.A little back story - Oracle (the owners and maintainers of Java) develop and distribute the Java package for all operating systems, except Mac. This has always been the case, since Mac uses fairly different GUI structuring compared to Windows or Linux - so Apple thought it best to deal with it in-house and Oracle were/are obviously happy with that.Apple are no longer going to maintain Java for any of its operating systems.
Whilst this is going to be fine for quite some time for 10.6 users, it's not so for 10.4 and some 10.5 users.Problem is, Apple don't like to maintain their old operating systems. In fact, for some time now (since 2009) they have not been distributing updates to Tiger (10.4) including Java. So unfortunately, anyone using Tiger can no longer play RuneScape in about 2 weeks time. The next version up, Leopard (10.5) is supported - just. It seems most people on 10.5 will be able to continue playing RuneScape. However, apparently (from what we can ascertain from the RuneScape forums) PowerPC (PPC) machines will no longer be supported for RuneScape. These are your G3/G4 type machines.
People who have an Intel processor and run 10.5, with fully up to data Java (run Software Update to check), should be able to play RS.And finally, those running Snow Leopard (10.6) are also fine. With fully up to data Java, you should not be served any warnings by RuneScape and things will continue to work fine (and probably better after the update). So, what's going to happen from now on? Well, since Apple don't want anything to do with Java, Oracle are left to sort something out for themselves. As mentioned earlier, it's not as easy as just porting it over - the Mac has a vastly different GUI setup than the OS they support. However, there is indeed hope on the horizon.I found by The Register which was published in January this year. Basically, it means that work on a new Java Mac project is underway and is making good progress.
It is not being built by Oracle themselves but is being supported by the OpenJDK community hosted on Java.net.Unfortunately, it won't be around in time for the changes to RuneScape, but people on 10.6 shouldn't be wary about the future of Java and RuneScape on the Mac - it will come, it could just take a while. The project status can be found.SwiftKit will continue to support Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) - and will support Lion (10.7).TL;DR: If you run 10.4 or 10.5 (PowerPC) versions of Mac OS X you could be locked out of RuneScape due to deprecated and soon-to-be unsupported versions of Java. More information in this RSOF discussion thread:MakSwiftKit - Head of Public Relations. #12 Snow @ 13 2011 11:35 amI have Lion 10.7.2 and I can't seem to get this to run. I tried doing what Lucas suggested and it got to the login screen then slowly to the lobby. Then I think I undid what Lucas told me to do and put it back into software mode instead of safemode.SO keep it in safemode!:P you can login to worlds that way haha. But I was playing RS from the Jagex provided download for macs in 'software' mode, you just can't resize the window after its totally done loading (once ur in lobby).
